The Competition Law Bar Association is constituted as an association of Advocates and was formed on November 27, 2009 at New Delhi a few months after certain provisions of the Competition Act were made effective from May 2009. It was initially named as Competition Appellate Tribunal Bar Association but renamed as Competition Law Bar Association on March 16, 2010. This Association was inaugurated by Dr. Justice Arijit Pasayat, the Hon’ble Chairman of the Competition Appellate Tribunal in the presence of Mr. Rahul Sarin (IAS) and Smt. Pravin Tripathi, Members of the Competition Appellate Tribunal on January 11, 2010. The inaugural function was felicitated by Mr. Dhanendra Kumar, Chairman, Competition Commission of India and legal luminaries like Mr. Fali S. Nariman, Senior Advocate and other senior members of the profession.
The Association has been recognised by the Competition Appellate Tribunal and has been allotted Bar rooms in its premises. Accordingly, the office of the Association is presently situated at the premises of the office of the Competition Appellate Tribunal at (a) Kota House Annexee, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi – 110 0011, and (b) 19th Floor, Jawahar Vyapar Bhawan, Tolstoy Marg, New Delhi – 110 001.
The Aims and Objects for which the said Association is established are as under:
To promote and maintain a high standard of professional conduct among members of the bard;
To promote and protect the privileges, rights, interests and prestige of the Association and its members and to promote unity and co-operation amongst advocates and other associates of the advocates in Delhi and other parties of the country;
To establish and maintain an adequate library for the use of members and to provide other facilities to them;
To watch the state of law and interest of its members;
To make representations from time to time to the chairman of the Tribunal and other Government authorities on matters affecting the bard;
To take necessary steps to prevent abuse of law or maladministration of justice and to suggest remedies therefore;
To take measures including funding and applying of funds for aid to deserving members or their families and to start welfare scheme;
To adapt all such measures as might be necessary or incidental to the carrying out of the aforesaid objects;
All other works which are necessary for smooth functioning of the bar and welfare of advocates.
